Kyle injured in a hard-fought battle!
The Comets finally got back into Championship action last night with a hard-fought win in a hugely entertaining clash with the Scunthorpe Scorpions.
Top-scoring for the Comets was Dan Bewley (pictured above leading Scunthorpe's Jake Allen) with 14 points from his five rides, which included stunning wins from the back in his final two outings in heats 12 and 15.
Dan's chief support came from Rene Bach (11 points), who rode through the pain barrier with his troublesome wrist injury (a legacy of his crash in Poland last Sunday) and Rasmus Jensen (9 points).
However, the night was marred by a couple of alarming crashes, the first of which came in heat 2 when Kyle Bickley was brought down by the Scorpions American reserve Gino Manzares who, having fallen when cutting under Kyle on the exit of turn two on the last lap, saw him and his machine end up in the path of Kyle, bringing him down.
After receiving treatment on the track and in the medical room for a leg injury Kyle was despatched to hospital for a further assessment; which thankfully showed no breaks, but some muscle damage.
Typically this came when Kyle was arguably having his best ride in Comets colours but we wish him well and hopefully he will be back on a bike very soon.
The second crash came on the last lap of heat 9 when the visitors number 5, Josh Auty, hit the back of Mason Campton's machine as they entered turn one for the final time sending him careering across the track and into the air fence. Again, after receiving treatment on the track, he too was sent to hospital; this time in an ambulance, with a suspected ankle injury.
